It is an experience to be able to Ski in the beautiful slopes of Antalya. Did you know that Antalya has also a ski field? The distance to Saklikent from Antalya is an hour. A jeep is best for the journey. You can also rent a sledge for the journey up to ski.. Of course you can not expect the ski circus found in the dolomites, but southern Turkey is well known as a summer-paradise for water babies and sun-hungry ones.Taking of photographs: This is allowed everywhere. You should ask in remote villages or certain situations, via body language ,if the people would mind if you take their picture. Most times they are eager for you to take the snapshot. Only the inhabitants of Selge! They constructed their homes around an ancient mountain range settlement. One house is located right in the stadium, another exactly on the stage of an ancient theater. For the villagers, there is only one complete remnant to the ancient civilization- the old roman bridge over the river bed of the Eurymedon river. Selge was originally founded by Greek soldiers who fought for Troja. Selge experienced its' period of bloom in the 5th Century B.C. with the trade relations with the Romans. To be seen are: the well preserved theater, a stadium, temple and remains of the city walls.Shopping: A true paradise for 'good deals". Whether it's textiles, leather, gold, carpets or spices, everyone can find their heart's desire at prices suitable to all pockets, but not on the shopping route excursions planned by the agencies. It is always possible to have the traders discount their wares by 10-30 % , especially for textiles and leather, as many of them inflate their prices by the discount in the first place. It is the Orient so bargaining is expected.Side: Big tourist centre (near Manavgat). Unlike Perge and Aspendos, the Greeks settled here not in the hinterland on a mountain, but directly at the sea. History tells that the Greeks of Side having mixed so very much with the original inhabitants, eventually spoke their language. In the 2./3th. Century A.C.Side became a very prosperous port and main trading area place for the slave trade. Old Egyptian documents suggest that the big slave market of Side mainly offered black Africans. The profits from these businesses were used to beautify the city and finance games and competitions. In Byzantine time,Side became the seat of the bishop. The theater where once so many people lost their lives, now served as the holy supper place. Side's theater was the largest in Pamhylia. Today, the ruins of rows of seats are still very well preserved, while the stagehouse is lying in ruins. Also the remains of the city gate are worth seeing at the point of entry. Side is a booming tourist place, with many big hotel chains found directly on the well kept sandy beaches. This area is very well suited for all holiday-makers and particularly for families vacationing with children.
