Beaches: The beaches on the Turkish Mediterranean are very different in their apperance as you can find mainly fine sandy beaches east of Antalya (Lara, Belek, Incekum, Side and Alanya), and toward the west of Antalya (Kemer) they change to one of a grit/sand mixture. The bigger hotel chains try to improve the quality of the beaches annually by contributing imported sand to the shores. The advantage, however, at the grit/sandy beaches is that the water is crystal-clear and completely clean.Behavior: You should behave as you do at home and you will find that Turkish hospitality is extremely tolerant. Respect the belief and the culture of the people and avoid the urge to go topless, this also pertains to the big vacation resorts that host European visitors. You should also be tolerant of the muezzin's call to prayer, the sound of which comes, several times a day, from the minaret of the many mosques. You can liken it to the morning bell-chimes of your churches at home.Belly dance: Most large hotels organize Turkish evenings every week, where belly dancers also perform. Let yourself revel in the magic of the Turkish belly dance music and in the hypnotic snake-like movements of the dancer. Truly a splendid experience! If you favour the dancing it is usual to give a small tip and place it in the bra or onto the hip of the dancer, but be sure that this is acceptable to your companion. It is well known that this act has caused severe marital quarrels. Presently, in Europe, it is quite fashionable to learn the oriental art of belly dancing.Beldibi : Small tourist place between Antalya and Kemer. The beach in Beldibi consists of sand/grit. This is, however, the advantage, as the water here is crystal-clear and clean! Well suited for holiday-makers with or without children.Belek : Growing tourist destination found between Antalya and Side. The most modern hotels and vacation resorts are to be found here housed in the gigantic nature park of the Turkish Mediterranean. The municipalities of Kadriye and Belek developed very quickly to become a huge tourism center. Golfers have also come to recognise Belek for its' facilities. Belek boasts six marvellous golf courses ranging from 770.000 square meters to 1.100.000 square meters. Many international tournaments are played here as the courses are of an international standard. More than 100 rare birds have their breeding grounds here in Belek's nature park. The flora consists of over 230 plants of which 30 plants are exclusive to Belek. Belek is very well suited for both introspective study and also for families with children, as there is a delightful beach that is quite shallow and very safe for kids.Beskonak : (pronounced: Beschkonak) A field found in the mountains between Antalya and Side. A secret garden for nature lovers! It has recently, over the last few years, been opened up for tourism and now Rafting tours are being offered along the Köprülü river. The very stable rubber boats can hold up to eight persons (protected by helmets, insulated diving gear and life jackets) and goes for about 15 km down the icy-cold mountain river. You can book this tour at nearly every travel agency. Beskonak has some excellent trout restaurants complete with their own trout breeding grounds. The fish is deliciously cooked through butter roasting and grilling.
