Cigarettes: A carton of Marlboro with ten boxes costs approx. 16 Euro at the duty free shops in  Antalya's airport. It is allowed, for persons over 16,  to bring in 3 cartons of cigarettes into  Turkey. You can buy your quota either in the inflight duty free sale or upon arrival, at the duty free shops in Antalya's airport.

Climate: The climate is Antalya goes through many phases. From November  to April it is  very mild with temperatures reaching up to 20 degrees. From May to  June you can experience a pleasant 20  to 25 degrees. July and August are incredibly hot with a very high humidity, with temperatures reaching as high as 40 degrees! Between September and October it is delightfully warm, from 20 up to 25 degrees. You can expect torrential rain showers from early June and also from the middle of October.

Culture: There is hardly another country on earth that can boast of such diverse cultures as Turkey. Atatürk, the founder of Turkey, was quoted as saying' The heart of Turkey is culture"!

Money: The official Turkish currency, from 1.1.2005 , is the New Turkish Lira. For one year the old currency, the Turkish Lir, will run in parrallel circulation. The New Turkish Lira has six zeros less than the old currency. With the 2005 monetary reform, the value of something could be placed at  10 million(TL) in value, now with the new lira, the same value is equated at  10 New Turkish Lira (YTL).  The exchange since October 2005 was YTL 1,60 to one Euro. You can pay also with Euro or pound here. You can  find the daily currency exchange rates posted by the central bank if you follow this link: www.tcmb.gov.tr. It is advisable not to change money to lira in your home country as the rates are almost 15% less than what you can get here in Turkey.  Important tip!! Do not change money at the airport in Antalya as you can get better rates (>12%more) at the local banks and Post offices!! I must insist upon that!

You can pay at any time and almost everywhere with EURO. You can get along  for the first few days with small  change until it becomes necessary to convert Euros. You get the best and most fair rates at banks or post offices. The exchange rates  at hotel receptions are between 5 % and 10 % lower than post offices and banks. There are also many  automatic cash dispensers in the holiday regions where you can withdraw money with your EC card in Turkish currency. You can only  exchange travellers cheques in a bank.

Demre: Also referred to by the name "Kale". Renowned for Santa Claus's church and as the  home of the holy Santa Claus in  350 A.C.as he had his bishop's see in  in Myra. Further attractions of Myra include numerous rock graves of  and the roman theater with 47 rows of seats.
