The Lycian Way

The ancient Lycian way refers to the path over which  the camel caravans moved over a thousand years ago, loaded with articles for trade. Today, there are signs indicating the Lycian way. It is now more of a  hiking trail for nature lovers.

It begins in the southwest of Antalya,in Fethiye, and runs for  over several a hundred kilometers. The special landmarks on this trail  to Antalya are Patara, Kalkan, Kas and Kekova. It might very well be  one of the most fascinating and at the same time, discovery-rich hiking ways of the world as you go along the wildly jagged coast of Fethiye, through the marvellous forests and past amazing bays with crystal-clear water. There are also to be found mysterious stone graves lining this old caravan way.Entire cliffs, found at Arykanda and Xanthos, are full of  impressive artistically decorated tomb chambers and mystical sarcophagi.

The complete Lycian way was well signposted over the last years by the Ministry of Tourism, making it possible to wander through the  intriguing stages. Day excursions can be arranged with tour guides to take you through this ancient way and to rediscover the past.
